For more than 40 years, Dr Zein Obagi has pioneered and continues to advance skincare protocols based on his philosophy of creating and maintaining healthy skin for life, as opposed to the traditional approach of only treating diseased and damaged skin. Researcher, innovator, author, educator and board-certified dermatologist Zein Obagi has achieved an international reputation as a leading authority on skin rejuvenation.
After completing his dermatology residency while serving in the United States Navy, Dr Obagi opened his dermatology practice in 1981, which has been in the heart of Beverly Hills since 1989.
His visionary thinking about skin health led him to become one of the first physicians to create his own skincare line, developing both the Obagi Nu-Derm System and founding the Obagi Skin Health Institute in the mid-80’s, making him a trailblazer in conceiving and bringing to market an eponymous medical-grade skin care line of products featuring his name and research.
Dr Zein Obagi was also one of the first physicians to introduce the concept of dispensing skincare in practices with the understanding that “skincare is the treatment.” He prioritized achieving healthy skin as a foundation for all dermatological procedures, and established skincare as a part of his skin health consultation in the mid-1980’s, introducing the concept to the world.
Dr Obagi is ranked among the world’s top experts on chemical peels and treating skin of colour, often tackling the most difficult cases from around the world. Throughout his career, Dr Obagi has trained thousands of plastic surgeons and dermatologists at scientific forums around the world. A prolific author and lecturer, he has presented more than 500 workshops and panels on topics pertaining to skin health and rejuvenation. In 2006, he re-located the Obagi Skin Health Institute in
the prestigious “Golden Triangle” of Beverly Hills. Today, he maintains satellite locations in Newport Beach, San Gabriel Valley and Laguna Beach as well.
